Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has called for stronger action to combat online abuse after receiving a “vile, racist, and threatening” message following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Juventus in the Champions League.
Walker shared a screenshot of the racist message he received on Instagram, condemning the abuse.
In a post on social media, he wrote, “No one should ever be subjected to the sort of vile, racist and threatening abuse I have received online since last night’s match.”
Walker urged Instagram and authorities to take stronger measures to prevent such abuse, emphasizing that it is never acceptable.
He also assured fans that Manchester City would continue to work hard to improve and turn their recent form around.
In response, Manchester City issued a statement strongly condemning the online abuse directed at Walker, stating that the club does not tolerate any form of discrimination, whether in stadiums or online.
The Premier League also condemned the incident, reaffirming that racism has no place in football or society.
They encouraged people to report discriminatory abuse to ensure appropriate action is taken.
