Manchester United is facing an unknown injury situation ahead of their match against Nottingham Forest.
The extent of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane’s injuries is still unknown, but Erik ten Hag, the United manager, says there can be no excuses.
During Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla, Martinez suffered a serious-looking injury and was taken away on a stretcher.
Varane had already been replaced at half-time due to injury.
Ten Hag downplayed concerns about Martinez’s Achilles injury but was coy when asked about reports of a broken metatarsal.
Back-up centre-backs Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will have an important role to play in their absence, adding to an injury list that includes Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Donny van de Beek.
Ten Hag hopes Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay can return to fitness at Forest, but even if they are not ready, he underlined the importance of squad players stepping up.
United have no time to wallow given the Forest match is followed by the reverse leg against Sevilla and next Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Brighton.
