Manchester United has made it more difficult to transfer captain Harry Maguire by increasing his salary.
This move comes after the Red Devils secured a spot in the Champions League.
Erik ten Hag, the manager, is looking to generate funds through player sales in order to bring in a goalkeeper and center-forward.
Initially, Ten Hag had a budget of around £120m, but nearly half of it has already been spent on the purchase of Mason Mount from Chelsea for £55m.
Following the team’s third-place finish last season, Maguire, like the rest of the squad, received a significant wage increase.
Despite losing his first-choice status under Ten Hag, both the player and manager are open to parting ways.
However, Maguire’s higher salary makes it challenging for potential buyers to convince him to accept a pay cut.
