Manchester United receive fresh Frenkie De Jong transfer blow
Manchester United’s hopes of signing Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong have been dealt a fresh blow following the Dutchman’s admission that he wants to remain at the Catalan club.
The 25-year-old was identified by incoming manager Erik ten Hag as one of his principal transfer targets last summer, with reports later emerging suggesting that the Red Devils would be prepared to reignite their interest in De Jong.
However, speaking to media outlet TV3, De Jong has revealed his desire to stay put at Barcelona for many more years:
“Barca has always been the club of my dreams and, therefore, I hope to be able to continue there for many more years”.
The midfielder has featured 33 times in all competitions this season under Xavi Hernandez and is on course for his first La Liga title should Barcelona hold off Real Madrid in the final months of the campaign – Los Blancos currently sit nine points behind them at the top of the table.
His current contract runs until 2024 and it appears as if he does not plan on leaving any time soon.
