Erik ten Hag has revealed the true reason why Manchester United snapped up Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day.
With Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay both facing lengthy spells on the sidelines, Ten Hag needed a short-term replacement immediately.
The Red Devils managed to secure a deal to bring in the quality midfielder until the end of the season and Ten Hag was delighted with the last minute business.
He said: “We got this opportunity after Donny van de Beek dropped out and knowing Christian Eriksen would be out for a longer time and also, Scott McTominay is not available for now – that gave us a shortage of midfield players but we’re thrilled we got this opportunity.”
