Manchester United have stated they will now undertake their own internal review to decide Mason Greenwood’s future, following the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to drop all charges against him.
The club expressed relief for this outcome, given that Greenwood had been suspended since January 2023 when he was first arrested on suspicion of r@p* and assaulting a woman.
Speaking publicly for the first time after his arrest, Greenwood thanked his family, friends and loved ones for their support.
Erik Ten Hag was asked by reporters at one of his pre-match press conferences about the situation regarding Greenwood but declined to comment beyond referring to the club statement.
It is still uncertain whether Mason Greenwood will be allowed back into Manchester United as it is up to the review process conducted by the club although it could result in a different decision compared to that of the police investigation.
Despite this, Greenwood still remains contractually linked with the Red Devils until June 2025 due to a four-and-a-half-year extension signed in January 2021.
