Mikel Arteta has delivered an update on the injury that kept Thomas Partey out of Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Partey, a January signing from Atletico Madrid, missed the massive title showdown on Wednesday night sparking speculation about his fitness and leading to questions for Arteta.
The Arsenal manager admitted he only discovered the extent of Partey’s injury very late and revealed it was a back muscle problem that had ruled him out.
Arteta also commented on Jorginho’s performance in place of Partey, stating he played a good game.
Regarding Partey’s chances of recovering for Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa, Arteta said they would have to assess him further as it is unclear how bad his injury is.
This comes at a critical time for Arsenal as they are now without a win in four games and risk slipping even further behind their rivals such as City if Partey is not able to return soon.
