Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has been granted permission by Justice C.J. Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos to travel for medical treatment.
This comes as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been trying Fayose, along with his company, Spotless Investment Limited, since 2018 for allegedly laundering N2.2bn to fund his 2014 governorship campaign.
The EFCC accused him of taking possession of N1,219,000,000 and receiving a cash payment of $5,000,000 from Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, which exceeded the amount authorized by law.
At Monday’s proceedings, the case was stalled as Obanikoro was absent from court, and the EFCC prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs, prayed for an adjournment.
Fayose’s lawyer informed the court of an application for a medical trip, which was granted, and further proceedings were adjourned until June 6.
