The redesign of the naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has raised questions about the involvement of the suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and the former Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.

While some Nigerians and financial experts criticized Emefiele for the policy, former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, believes that both Emefiele and Ahmed have a responsibility to answer for the decision.

Ahmed had previously stated that the ministry was not consulted before the redesign and expressed concerns about the potential consequences for the economy.

However, Yuguda argues that as a former Finance Minister, Ahmed should have been aware of the operations and activities of the CBN under Emefiele’s leadership.

The redesign of the naira notes in denominations of N200, N500, and N1000 was announced by Emefiele in line with the provisions of the CBN Act 2007.
