Less than 24 hours after winning the Senate presidential election, Senator Ali Ndume distanced himself from Godswill Akpabio, the newly-elected President of the 10th Senate.
Ndume had previously campaigned for Akpabio and Deputy Speaker Barau Jibril, but in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, he stated that he should not be held responsible if Akpabio fails to meet the expectations of the office.
Ndume clarified that he believed Akpabio was the best candidate, but he could not predict his future actions.
He also stated that he should not share in any liability attached to Akpabio’s performance.
Ndume had known Akpabio for four years and believed he was intelligent, passionate, and detribalized, with all the qualifications to do what Nigerians expect.
