Neymar recently opened up about his time at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in a podcast with World Cup winner Romário, discussing the dynamics between himself, Kylian Mbappé, and Lionel Messi.
The Brazilian forward, now playing for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, revealed that Mbappé became “a little jealous” after Messi’s arrival at PSG in 2021.
Neymar reflected fondly on his partnership with Mbappé, mentioning that they shared many enjoyable moments both on and off the pitch.
He recalled how he would often call Mbappé the “golden boy” and believed in his potential.
However, he admitted that tensions grew as Messi joined, leading to changes in the interactions between the two forwards.
Neymar stated that Mbappé didn’t want to “split” him with anyone, leading to some arguments and a shift in behavior between them.
Both Neymar and Mbappé arrived at PSG in 2017 with the goal of helping the club secure its first Champions League title, a dream that remains unfulfilled.
During the podcast, Neymar candidly spoke about how big egos played a role in PSG’s struggles to achieve its Champions League aspirations.
While he refrained from naming specific players, he noted, “It is good to have egos, but you have to know that you don’t play alone.”
He emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating that success is impossible without mutual support and effort from everyone.
Neymar also hinted at the possibility of returning to Brazil once his contract with Al-Hilal expires in mid-2025.
As of now, neither Mbappé nor Messi has publicly responded to Neymar’s comments.
