Swedish authorities have closed an investigation into alleged rape and sexual assault involving Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé due to insufficient evidence.
The 25-year-old French football star visited Stockholm from October 9-11 after being excluded from France’s Nations League squad.
On October 15, Swedish prosecutors announced an inquiry into an incident at a luxury hotel in the city on October 10, though the suspect’s identity was not revealed.
However, Swedish media outlets later linked Mbappé to the case.
Prosecutor Marina Chirakova confirmed on Thursday that the investigation was closed, explaining that there was not enough evidence to proceed.
The individual in question had not been interrogated or formally notified of any suspicion.
Despite conducting numerous interviews, no new evidence emerged to alter the situation.
The complaint was filed on October 12, after the alleged victim sought medical help.
Police reportedly seized clothing, including women’s underwear and black garments, from the hotel.
Mbappé, whose lawyer previously expressed shock at the claims, denied involvement, stating he had received no summons and was not involved in the incident.
