Canada has expanded its visa-free travel privileges to include 13 countries from Asia, Central and South America, as well as Morocco and Seychelles from Africa.
However, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, was not included in this development.
The Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, announced the expansion of the electronic travel authorization (eTA) program, which simplifies the process for “known travellers” from these countries to visit Canada for tourism or business.
The eTA program offers significant cost savings, with a fee of only seven dollars per person and a validity of up to five years, compared to the current visitor visa fee of $100 per person and $500 for a family of five or more.
The Canadian government hopes that this move will increase travel, tourism, and economic benefits, as well as strengthen global bonds with these 13 countries.
