Ever wondered which Nigerian players achieved success with their respective club in the just concluded 2022-23 campaign in Europe?

With the 2022-23 football season done and dusted for some leagues in Europe and with some set to round-off this weekend, let’s look at some Nigeria players who achieved success this year.

Here are Nigeria players who were successful in Europe this season.

Chidozie Awaziem – (Hajduk Split)

It has been an incredible season for Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem and his Croatian club Hajduk Split, for winning the league cup against Sibenik.

The Nigeria international helped the Croatian side to a 2-0 win against their opponent in the final who were the holder of the competition before the final.

Awaziem was in action for the duration of the game as his club went on to win their 8th Croatian Cup which qualified them for next season Europa Conference League.

Peter Olayinka & Igoh Ogbu – (Slavia Prague)

Nigerian duo of Olayinka and Ogbu added another medal to their cabin after their success in the Czech Republic prestigious MOL Cup.

Slavia Prague triumphed over its noisy neighbors, Sparta Prague, in the finals to become the 2022-23 new Champions of Czech Republic.

Though fan favorite Peter Olayinka didn’t feature in the final due to injury, but his compatriot Igoh Ogbu played out all 90mins of the game to ensure Slavia Prague won 2-0 against their neighbor.

Fred Friday – (Beitar Jerusalem)

Nigerian born forward, Fred Friday, was in his usual form for his Israeli club Beitar Jerusalem, when they conquered highly-rated Maccabi Tell Aviv in the semi-finals of the Israeli State Cup.

In the final which was played on May 23rd, Friday contributed a goal in his side 3-0 triumph over Maccabi Netanya, to capture their first Israeli State Cup in 14-years despite the unruly behavior from from fans.

Though the final was marred with fans unruly behavior at the Haifa Sammy Ofer Stadium, however, after the whole chaos was settled Beitar Jerusalem were handed their trophy as winner of the Israeli State Cup for 2023.

Fred Onyedinma & Elijah Adebayo – (Luton Town)

Nigerian duo of Fred Onyedinma and Elijah Adebayo helped their club, Luton Town to pick the English Premier League slot after their triumph against Coventry City in a penalty 6-5 shoot-out.

The commendable feat achieved by Luton Town this season means the team make a return to the topflight for the first time after 31-year absence.

The Hatters will join Burnley and Sheffield United, who won automatic promotion as Championship winners and runners-up, ahead of the 2023-24 campaign in English football.

Victor Osimhen – (Napoli)

If there’s any Nigeria player whose success in Europe with Napoli should be celebrated massively, it is Osimhen’s commendable feat with the Partenopai as they secured Serie A title for the first time in 33-years.

The Super Eagles starboy who has been in imperious form for Napoli scored a whopping 25-goals this season, as the team incredible achievement got many talking all over the globe.

The Napoli hero also surpassed Samuel Eto’o and George Weah’s record for the most goals scored in a single Serie A, accumulating a total of 25-goals in 30 appearances for Luciano Spalletti led side.
