On June 2nd, 2023, Tems’ manager, Muyiwa Awoniyi, announced on his Instagram stories that the Nigerian singer had received her Grammy award plaque.
Tems won the award for her contribution to Drake and Future’s “Wait for You,” which won the Best Rap Melodic Performance category.
This marks Tems’ first-ever Grammy win, and although the song was also nominated for the Best Rap Song award, it did not win.
With this achievement, Tems joins Sade Adu as the only female Nigerian artists to have won a Grammy.
Sade won her award in 1986 for Best New Artist. Muyiwa shared a photo of someone holding the trophy, showcasing Tems’ well-deserved recognition.
