The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has announced a major change coming on July 1, 2025. From that date, all post office counters across the country will stop accepting cash payments for services.
According to Legit.ng, this shift is part of NIPOST’s broader reform initiative aimed at modernizing its operations and aligning with Nigeria’s growing digital economy. Customers will now be required to make payments through approved electronic channels.
NIPOST explained that the transition to a cashless system is designed to improve the speed, transparency, and safety of its services. This move is expected to strengthen NIPOST’s role in Nigeria’s digital landscape.
“A major highlight of the reform package is the transition to a fully cashless system,” the agency stated. This reform is aligned with the government’s goal to promote technological innovation and customer-centric services.
The decision is part of NIPOST’s efforts to embrace a more efficient, modern way of handling transactions. As the reform process unfolds, Nigerians can expect a revitalized postal service offering improved reliability and service.
In addition to the payment changes, NIPOST has outlined a list of prohibited items that cannot be sent through its courier services. These items include currency notes, precious metals, narcotics, explosives, and dangerous substances.
