Novak Djokovic’s epic victory at the Australian Open final on Sunday night finally saw him equal Rafael Nadal’s male record of 22 Grand Slams.

Djokovic, who is 35 years old and from Serbia, defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) in an intense match that he was able to dominate – especially in the two third set tiebreaks.

Not only did this momentous victory clinch him 10th title in Australia and return him to No. 1 of ATP rankings, but it also allowed for him to gain a 22nd major championship – tying with all-time tennis legend Rafael Nadal for most by a man ever.

In addition, the win marked his 93rd ATP tour-level title, allowing him to overcome Connors’ previous mark of 109 trophies.

The road to achieving such records has been difficult, with Djokovic having not competed at the Australian Open last year due to government restriction and him not yet having taken COVID-19 vaccine shots.

This triumph however, puts his unbeaten streak at 28 matches at Rod Laver Arena but also reinforces his dominance on hard courts as he now has more titles than Nadal and Williams combined – further cementing his legacy as an all time great in men’s singles tennis.
