NRC begins building bridges at level crossings after train crash

In an effort to reduce train collisions, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has started constructing underground passages and overhead bridges at 11 different level crossings across Lagos State.

Fidet Okhiria, the NRC managing director, mentioned that they have already constructed an underground and overhead pass at Agege’s level crossing.

With plans to install 11 flyovers within Lagos, the construction process must be done in batches. Due to repeated incidents of vandalism, repairs had to be made to existing barricades.

To improve the situation further, NRC has decided to employ both gatemen and technological solutions such as audio advisories for approaching trains.

Mr Okhiria urged road users to obey traffic regulations; stressing that life is precious and cannot be duplicated.
