Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has delivered a scathing attack on the All Progressives Congress, describing Nigeria’s ruling party as a “cult” rather than a democratic platform – www.naijnaira.com reports.
Speaking during an appearance on AIT’s Democracy Today, the former presidential candidate accused the APC of lacking ideology, internal structures, and a clear vision for Nigeria.
He alleged that decisions in the APC are dictated by a handful of individuals, saying, “One or two people hand down instructions, and others obey like zombies. That is not a party; it is a cult.”
Olawepo-Hashim argued that APC leadership has presided over economic collapse and worsening insecurity across the country.
According to him, Nigeria’s GDP dropped from over $570 billion in 2014 to under $300 billion by 2025, while per capita income fell below $1,000.
He accused the party of expanding insecurity from the northeast into the northwest, north-central, and southeast.
Comparing both parties, he praised the PDP as Nigeria’s “true democratic platform,” where internal debates and disagreements shape decisions.
He recalled PDP’s primaries in 2003 when Olusegun Obasanjo faced strong competition, saying that was evidence of real democracy.
Olawepo-Hashim urged Nigerians to demand genuine political accountability ahead of the 2027 elections.
