The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTHEC) in Okitipupa, owned by the Ondo state government, experienced a shutdown of academic activities on Wednesday due to the alleged mass sack of some workers in the institution.
The workers, who were duly employed and issued appointment letters by the management, were surprised to receive a sack letter on Tuesday.
The affected workers, who numbered over 20, protested their dismissal by shutting down the gate of the university, preventing both human and vehicular movement.
The unions in the institution, including SSANU, NASU, and NAAT, rejected the mass sack and demanded that it be reversed immediately.
The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) in the institution, Rotimi Olorunsola, stated that the gate of the university would remain locked until the management recalled the sacked workers.
The council was given an ultimatum that unless the decision was reversed, the union would embark on an industrial action.
