Osimhen's Massive Wage Demands Put Chelsea Move on Hold

Chelsea’s pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is reportedly in jeopardy due to the striker’s high wage demands.

The 25-year-old Nigerian forward is seeking a contract worth £500,000 per week, which would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

Despite ongoing negotiations throughout the summer, there has been no agreement.

Chelsea initially attempted to sign Osimhen on loan, unwilling to meet his £110 million release clause, but Napoli rejected the proposal.

Although Napoli has since reduced their asking price to £85 million, the wage demands are now the problem.

Chelsea has been actively working to manage their wage bill to accommodate Osimhen’s demands.

The club’s efforts have led to several first-team players, including Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling, being exiled from the main squad.

The goal is to free up enough financial resources to meet or come close to Osimhen’s wage expectations.

Nonetheless, the club has started exploring alternatives due to the high wage demands of the Nigerian forward.

With the Osimhen deal in jeopardy, Chelsea has identified other potential targets to fortify their attacking options.

Federico Chiesa from Juventus and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin are reportedly being considered as more cost-effective alternatives.

Manager Enzo Maresca has emphasized the need for an additional striker despite recent signings, noting that the squad currently has only two natural number 9s, Nicolas Jackson and newcomer Marc Guiu from Barcelona.
