The Concerned PDP League (CPDPL) has issued a warning to the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagum, regarding the endorsement of former Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal, as the Minority Leader of the 10th Senate.
In a statement signed by CPDPL chairman, Mr Daboikiabo Warmate, the group expressed their rejection of Tambuwal’s purported nomination, stating that his performances as the leader of the PDP Governors Forum Chairman and Speaker of the House of Representatives were not impressive enough to earn him the position of the majority leader.
The group also accused Tambuwal of using and abandoning the PDP.
Instead, they suggested that the position should be given to a state in the North-Central, specifically Plateau.
Warmate emphasized that Tambuwal’s past actions, including defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after being given the House of Representatives Speakership by the PDP, make him untrustworthy and lacking the necessary courage to be the Minority Leader of the 10th Senate.
The CPDPL called for a mid-term convention and the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to allow for fresh ideas.
They urged the Acting National Chairman not to sign any letter introducing Tambuwal as the Minority Leader and emphasized that PDP members cannot be used and discarded.
The group commended Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, for providing the necessary opposition voice during the eight years of the APC Buhari-led Federal Government.
