Early Life and Education
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, famously known as Pelé, was born on October 23rd, 1940 in Três Corações, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
His parents named him after Thomas Edison and he earned the nickname “Dico” from them.
The famous “Pelé” moniker supposedly came from a mispronunciation of his favorite goalkeeper’s name (“Bilé”) when Edson was a young child.

In 2019, Pele underwent surgery to remove Kidney Stones causing Urinary Tract Infection, and in 2021 he successfully fought off a Tumour from his right colon after undergoing chemotherapy.
