Peter Obi Warned as VP Role in 2027 Could End His Support

Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has been advised not to accept any offer to serve as a vice presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections. The advice comes amid ongoing discussions about potential alliances ahead of the next election cycle.

According to a report by Daily Post, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Policy, warned that such a move would alienate Obi’s supporters and damage his political momentum. He shared these views during an appearance on Channels Television.

Bwala emphasized that Obi’s strength lies in the commitment of his supporters, known as the Obidient movement, who rallied around him with the singular expectation that he would pursue the presidency. Any shift from that role, Bwala claimed, could erode the base that gave Obi a nationwide following in 2023.

“Peter Obi will be making the biggest mistake of his life to now come together under the agreement he will be a running mate,” Bwala said during the interview. He added that most supporters were invested in Obi’s personal candidacy, not a coalition role.

He also claimed that President Tinubu’s influence is growing as more political figures—from governors to senators—join his camp. According to Bwala, the president is using his position to unite different factions and increase his reach across the country.

Bwala insisted that while no leader is without fault, Tinubu currently has the best capacity to rally support across Nigeria. He argued that no opposition figure, including Obi, has the grassroots structure or political weight to effectively challenge the president in 2027.
