Peter Obi Biography

His full name is Peter Gregory Obi (CON), born 19 July 1961 in Onitsha, is a Nigerian businessman and politician who is the Labour Party’s nominee for President of Nigeria for the 2023 presidential election.

Obi graduated from the University of Nigeria in 1984, after which he started a career in business and banking and held executive positions at banks.

In 2003, he ran for governor as an APGA member but was controversially defeated by Chris Ngige.

Following his reelection as governor in 2006, he was impeached but had his second impeachment reversed.

In 2007, he won the Anambra State gubernatorial election again.

Obi later decamped to the PDP and was chosen as Atiku Abubakar’s vice presidential running mate during the 2019 presidential campaign but lost to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and vice president Yemi Osinbajo.

By 2022, Obi ran for the presidency himself under Labour Party with the promotion of young Nigerians nicknamed “Obidients”, that focused on populist policies.

Peter Obi is a leader who is highly educated. After completing his secondary school education at Christ the King College in Onitsha in 1980, Obi earned his B. A (Hons) in philosophy at the University of Nigeria four years later.
