The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has launched a biometric identity card for easy identification of its members.

The association, in partnership with Zenith Bank, unveiled this in Lagos State during the week.

Speaking at the event, PMAN’s President, Pretty Okafor, highlighted the importance of the card to its members.

According to him, the card will improve its database to assist members who want to travel abroad, boost their health insurance or pension plan, collection of royalties, and offer other forms of support to members of the association.

He also stated that PMAN faced stiff opposition from some people who did not want the biometric card to see the light of day.

Also, he noted that the card will help members control their finances and be free from collective management organisations.

He said, “We created a database for musicians in Nigeria that will give them digital access to musicians around the world and digital access to monitor their royalties, so that the CMOS cannot cheat them again. They will be getting their money in dollars.”

Zenith Bank’s representative, Ugochi Onyekwelu, stated that the cardholders will get special benefits from the bank, while noting that that it also functions as a debit card.

She said, “Our cards are contactless solutions and can be used for all transactions, both local and international. It will also offer PMAN decentralised offerings as members can get the cards at any of our over 400 branches nationwide.”
