Premier League referee David Coote has been suspended by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following an investigation into a video that allegedly shows him making derogatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, features Coote discussing officiating in Liverpool’s matches while using offensive language to criticize Klopp.
In addition to Coote’s remarks, another individual featured in the video also made several negative comments about Liverpool FC and the people of Liverpool.
The contents of the video have raised concerns regarding impartiality and professionalism, prompting PGMOL to take swift action.
In response to the controversy, PGMOL issued a statement on Monday confirming that Coote had been suspended “with immediate effect” while a full investigation takes place.
The governing body emphasized that it would not be making any further comments until the investigation is completed.
