Ferland Mendy was forced off with an injury during Real Madrid‘s 3-0 La Liga victory over Girona on Saturday.
The club’s medical team later confirmed that the French left-back has suffered a muscular injury to his right quadriceps.
Although Madrid did not specify a return date, reports suggest Mendy is likely to be sidelined for several weeks.
The injury comes at a challenging time for Madrid, who are fighting for Champions League survival after three defeats in their opening five group-stage matches.
Mendy is expected to miss upcoming La Liga fixtures against Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla, as well as the Intercontinental Cup final against Al Ahly on December 18.
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham also picked up a knock during the Girona match, but coach Carlo Ancelotti reassured fans that the English midfielder would be available for Madrid’s next Champions League game against Atalanta.
The team is hopeful for the return of Brazilian attackers Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes for the Atalanta match as well.
However, several key players remain sidelined, including Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Eduardo Camavinga, and David Alaba, all of whom are still recovering from injuries.
