Rumors suggesting George Akume has been removed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) are completely false, NaijNaira can report.
The claims began circulating on June 28, mostly on social media, as several users speculated that President Bola Tinubu had made new appointments.
Legit.ng, which first published the clarification, confirmed that the presidency has debunked these claims.
“Agents of mischief fabricated it,” Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, said in a late-night statement.
He added, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.”
The statement emphasized that no changes have been made to the federal cabinet, and George Akume remains SGF without interruption.
Tinubu departed Abuja on June 27 for an official visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil, where he’s scheduled to engage in bilateral and multilateral discussions.
He landed in Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, on June 28, receiving military honors at Hewanorra International Airport.
He was welcomed by Saint Lucia’s Governor-General, Errol Melchiades Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.
On June 30, Tinubu will address a special joint session of Saint Lucia’s Senate and House of Assembly at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom.
His Caribbean visit leads into the BRICS summit in Brazil, where key global topics like AI regulation, climate, and multilateral peace will take center stage.
The 2025 BRICS theme focuses on boosting cooperation among Global South nations under more inclusive and sustainable governance.
