Luis Enrique has been announced as the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a two-year deal.
However, the focus of his unveiling was overshadowed by uncertainty surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappe, the superstar forward of the team.
While Luis Enrique expressed his excitement about joining PSG and managing the team, he was evasive when asked about guarantees regarding Mbappe’s stay at the club.
PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi stated that Mbappe must sign a new contract if he wants to remain at the club for the upcoming season.
Mbappe had previously declared that he would not extend his contract, which expires next year.
If PSG fails to sell him in the current transfer window, they risk losing him for nothing when his deal ends.
Real Madrid is considered the favorites to secure Mbappe if he decides to change clubs. Luis Enrique becomes the eighth coach to lead PSG since the Qatari takeover in 2011 and will be tasked with achieving success in the UEFA Champions League, a competition that PSG has never won.
