Bad news for Paris St Germain: their star forward Neymar will be out for the rest of the season.
The Brazilian has been ruled out by the club to undergo ankle surgery and repair ankle ligaments, which will take at least three months to recover from.
Neymar has already missed PSG’s last two games since a 4-3 win over Lille last month.
Although he has had several episodes of instability in his right ankle in recent years, this latest sprain contracted on February 20 was the final straw.
PSG medical staff recommended undergoing a ligament repair operation to prevent future occurrences, and all consulted experts confirmed its necessity.
A delay of three to four months is expected before Neymar’s return to training.
For now, PSG will have to face Bayern Munich without him on Wednesday in the Champions League last-16 second leg, trailing 1-0.
Despite this setback, they still remain eight points ahead of Olympique de Marseille at the top of Ligue 1.
