According to Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is currently leading the race to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
Despite interest from Premier League clubs Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United, PSG has reportedly “moved into the front row” in their pursuit of the Nigerian striker.
The report suggests that PSG is getting closer to meeting Osimhen’s €130 million release clause, as they view him as the ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappé, who is rumored to be heading to Real Madrid.
Osimhen recently signed a contract extension with Napoli until 2026, but the club is prepared to part ways with the Serie A leading scorer at the end of the season.
Il Corriere dello Sport also highlights the history of player transfers between PSG and Napoli.
In the past, PSG acquired Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani from Napoli in 2012 and 2013, respectively, for a combined transfer fee of €95 million.
More recently, Fabian Ruiz made the move to PSG in 2022 for €23 million.
While Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are said to be closely monitoring Osimhen, PSG currently appears to be in the lead to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.
It remains to be seen whether they will be able to meet Napoli’s hefty release clause and secure the talented striker’s services for the upcoming seasons.
