Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has waded into the storm surrounding Governor Johnson Sakaja, urging Nairobi MCAs allied to his ODM party to stand down on the planned impeachment motion – www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to TUKO.co.ke, Raila called a consultative meeting at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation where he appealed to ward reps to reconsider the move.
Governor Sakaja is staring at removal from office after 80 MCAs signed a motion citing incompetence, misuse of county funds, and abuse of office.
“Good morning Hon Members, you are hereby invited by Party Leader, H.E Raila Amollo Odinga for a consultative meeting today at 10:00 am,” read one of the invites to ODM MCAs.
At the same time, President William Ruto is said to have invited UDA ward reps to State House to rally them against the impeachment.
The Nairobi County Assembly has 124 MCAs, with ODM and UDA commanding more than 100 seats combined, making every vote critical.
Raila has already held multiple meetings with Sakaja and county leaders, including one at his Karen residence, urging the governor to deliver services and release funds for scholarships and ward projects.
