The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (LSDSVA) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have launched a probe into Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington following a controversial Instagram Live session.

The rapper, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, claimed in the now-viral video to have had a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl. He described the alleged incident in Igbo, stating it occurred in an unnamed hotel and involved blood-stained sheets.

LSDSVA responded to the video, calling it “disturbing” and confirmed they had escalated the matter due to jurisdiction limitations. The agency noted that the entertainer did not mention the exact location of the alleged event.

“We are aware of the disturbing video currently circulating online, in which a popular entertainer allegedly admits to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor,” LSDSVA said in an official statement.

The agency stated that the case was referred to NAPTIP, which has confirmed the launch of a formal investigation. Both agencies are now working together to determine the facts surrounding the Instagram Live confession.

In a follow-up video, Speed Darlington apologized and admitted the statement was part of a promotional stunt for a new song. He told fans, “I need controversy to eat. If you are not trending, you are not getting booked.”

He added, “I have a new song now. The song is talking about f#ck this, f#ck that. This is my genre. I do not perform Christian music. When I dropped my song, I needed f#ck contents to push it. That is what I was doing. Don’t give it more than it is supposed to have.”

The controversial video has triggered public backlash and has placed renewed attention on the responsibilities of influencers and entertainers on social media platforms.

As the Speed Darlington investigation continues, LSDSVA and NAPTIP urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report similar cases.
