Real Madrid Causes Uproar After Using a Nickname Set Aside For Cristiano Ronaldo

Fans of Cristiano Ronaldo have voiced their discontent at Real Madrid for referring to Karim Benzema as ‘Mr Champions League’ following the Merengues’ aggregate victory over Liverpool in the second round of the Champions League.

Despite his impressive displays during last season and being awarded the Ballon d’Or, fans stress that it is Ronaldo who is undisputedly deserving of such a nickname given his exceptional history in Europe’s premier club football competition.

Over a nine-year stint at Real Madrid he won four Champions League crowns and notched up a whopping 134 goals in all competitions – an immortal record.

It was also at Real Madrid where Ronaldo hit one of his most memorable performances by snatching three goals against Atletico Madrid to eliminate them from the competition.

As Benzema looks set to sign another deal with Los Blancos, keeping him at the club until 2023/24, they will hope he can replicate this success and write a similar story but whilst still acknowledging Ronadlo’s unparalleled legacy in this tournament.
