Real Madrid secured a 4-2 victory over Sevilla at the Bernabeu on Sunday, ending 2024 on a high and moving into second place in the La Liga table.

The first half was an action-packed affair, with Real Madrid leading 3-0 by the 34th minute.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring with a stunning long-range strike, followed by Federico Valverde, who also found the net from outside the box.

Rodrygo added a third, further cementing Madrid’s dominance. Sevilla pulled one back before halftime when Isaac Romero headed a Juanlu Sanchez cross into the net, reducing the deficit to 3-1.

In the second half, Brahim Diaz extended Real Madrid’s lead to 4-1 early on, converting after excellent play from Mbappe, who was the standout performer of the match.

Sevilla did score once more through Dodi Lukebakio, who fired home on a counterattack, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.

With the win, Real Madrid leapfrogged Barcelona into second place, now just one point behind Atletico Madrid, who remain top of the table after a strong run of form.
