Tragedy struck the Marley family this week as reggae artist Jo Mersa, son of Stephen Marley and grandson of Bob Marley, passed away at the age of 31.
The cause of death has not yet been made public though some sources are reporting an asthma attack.
TIDAL paid tribute to the late musician on Twitter, saying “Forever in our hearts” in memory of Jo Mersa Marley.
He started his career in 2014 with his debut album Comfortable and released his second album Eternal last year featuring collaborations with some award-winning artists.
Those who knew him state that he followed closely in the footsteps of both his father and grandfather, maintaining their legacy through his music and performances, such as appearing at Jamaica’s 60th Launch in Florida back in May.
Jamaican leaders have taken to Twitter to express their condolences to the legendary family with Prime Minister Andrew Holness sending strength while Culture Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange described this loss as a huge one for music due to Jo Mersa’s talent and potential.
Jo Mersa is survived by wife and daughter along with an everlasting influence on reggae music worldwide.
