Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, says the movie industry is a “dangerous place” for young girls while accusing some celebrities of engaging in child labour.
In a video shared on Instagram on Monday, the 22-year-old film star said she was lucky to have a mother who protected her at the early stage of her career.
“Nollywood is a very dangerous place for young girls. I know, I was there,” she said.
“But I was opportune to have a very strong mother, a mother that was constantly on my neck, a mother that was feared by lots of people.
“So, they knew that was Mama Regina’s daughter so they gave me all the space.”
She also recounted how she met a 14-year-old girl on set who worked as a makeup artist without being paid.
The actress said the little girl opened up about working with “different celebrities/crew members and sleeping in different hotels.”
She added that she was able to put her in “one of the best schools in Delta”.
“I’m just wondering those celebrities, are they senseless?” Regina questioned.
“Let me leave aside crew members because some crew members deceive young girls and end up taking advantage of them.
“But these celebrities, they know what it means to be in the industry, they know what they went through…
“There are lots of people who will want to take advantage of you, it takes only the grace of God for you to meet some straightforward that will help you.”
The actress called on celebrities to not encourage child labour but rather help the youngsters.
“You know there are producers and crew members that constantly want to sleep with these girls, if you see them, send them away or please help them,” she said.
“I’ve said it to myself if I go to any production again and I see any young girl trying to work, I’ll fight the producer.
“It is either you don’t call me or you make sure you have capable hands and not having girls you take advantage of.”
