Erik ten Hag has revealed that Manchester United have finalised Wout Weghorst’s move from Burnley on loan for the rest of the season, giving United another striker to offset the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Thanks to the arrival of goalkeeper Jack Butland from Crystal Palace and two young talents in Kobbie Mainoo and Facundo Pellistri in recent weeks, Ten Hag believes there is now enough competition in the squad to satisfy United’s goals.
With Mainoo and Pellistri making their debuts midweek while attracting interest from other clubs hoping to loan them, Ten Hag asserted that they have now become part of his core squad – but only if they prove themselves worthy.
The Dutch manager made it clear: “they have to show they can contribute to the team and the high targets we have.”
