Reports have emerged that Mason Mount has rejected Chelsea’s offer of a new contract amid dissatisfaction with the terms proposed.
The England international’s current deal will expire at the end of next season.
Despite being integral to manager Graham Potter’s side, having started 19 of 21 Premier League matches this season and all six Champions League group stage games, the two parties are reportedly far apart financially.
Mount wants to triple his current £80,000 per week wages in order to make him on par with some of Chelsea’s highest earners – though the Blues are reluctant to offer him as much as they gave Raheem Sterling last summer.
Talks between both sides have been put on hold but could potentially resume soon; with Chelsea not wanting Mount to enter the final year of his contract with the risk of losing him for free in 2024, now looming.
Unhappy with their proposal, Mount may consider his long-term future elsewhere given his contributions thus far (with 33 goals and 37 assists from 188 appearances).
Despite recruiting heavily in attacking areas during January (which included Mykhaylo Mudryk (£88m), Noni Madueke (£29m), loanee Joao Felix and young striker David Datro Fofana), Mount was able play in Friday’s match against Fulham; however, he failed to influence proceedings as Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw by their local rivals.
