Ruben Amorim began his tenure as Manchester United head coach with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
The match saw standout performances from Amad Diallo and Andre Onana, as the Portuguese coach looked to build his team with small changes from the previous regime under Ruud van Nistelrooy.
United made a dream start when Marcus Rashford scored just 90 seconds in, poking in at the near post after a superb run from Amad, who was deployed as a right wing-back.
Despite a bright start, United struggled to build on their lead, with Christian Eriksen testing Ipswich keeper Arijanet Muric from distance.
At the other end, Onana was forced into action, denying Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap with key saves.
Ipswich equalized just before halftime when Omari Hutchinson’s stunning strike took a deflection off Noussair Mazraoui and found the net.
In the second half, United came close to regaining the lead, with Alejandro Garnacho’s low shot saved and Onana again denying Delap from close range.
Amorim made several tactical changes, introducing Luke Shaw, Manuel Ugarte, Rasmus Hojlund, and Joshua Zirkzee, but it was Bruno Fernandes who nearly won the match with a free-kick that went just wide.
Ultimately, the game ended in a 1-1 draw which seemed a fair result, as both teams failed to capitalize on their chances.
Manchester United’s next challenge is a Europa League game on Thursday against Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt.
