Rescue workers in Kyiv continue clearing debris following a Russian missile and drone strike that has now claimed 28 lives, including three children – www.naijnaira.com reports.
Ukrainska Pravda confirmed the attack hit 27 sites across four districts of the capital late July 30 into the early hours of July 31.
According to Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s emergency services, workers pulled 10 bodies overnight from rubble in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
Among the dead was a two-year-old child recovered from the ruins, he said during the national news broadcast.
Just after 8 a.m., Khorunzhyi announced another body had been discovered, raising the toll to 27.
Shortly after, Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed that the number had risen to 28.
Emergency services estimate that roughly 70 percent of the destroyed building has now been cleared.
Crews remain on-site, expecting the death count to possibly rise as the search continues.
Those injured number 159, including 16 children, with several receiving hospital treatment.
Six-year-old Matvii Marchenko, a local karate student, was one of the young victims lost in the strike.
Police officer Liliia Stepanchuk also died during the missile attack on Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi district.
Journalist Nataliia Mazina and her husband Dmytro Mazin were injured when their apartment was damaged during the drone strike in the same area.
