Real Sociedad’s president, Jokin Aperribay, has shared that Sadiq Umar might still be part of the team for the 2025/2026 campaign, even with transfer rumors swirling — www.naijnaira.com reports.
In a report published by Mundo Deportivo, Aperribay pointed out that the Nigerian striker has impressed during training with the squad currently in Zubieta.
Sadiq’s loan spell at Valencia during the second half of last season helped him regain both fitness and form after a frustrating start to the 2024/2025 season at Sociedad.
During his stint with Valencia, he scored five times in 16 La Liga appearances and showed the type of sharpness that had previously made him one to watch.
The Real Sociedad boss said, “The information I have about Sadiq is that he’s trained very well, like the entire group that has stayed in Zubieta.”
Aperribay also noted daily updates from the coaching staff, adding, “Sadiq is doing very well.”
He made it clear that the club is still evaluating its transfer strategy, but didn’t dismiss the idea of Sadiq staying.
“We’ll see. I wouldn’t rule out Sadiq being here next season,” Aperribay explained.
He further mentioned that while the club is open to making new signings, they are satisfied with the current roster.
“We feel we have a good squad and good players, and also that we can achieve our goals with the players we have,” he stated.
The final say on Sadiq’s role will ultimately come from Sergio Francisco, the new head coach, whose opinion could shape the forward’s direction.
“We’ll have to see how Sergio views Sadiq, and we’ll make decisions based on what I’ve said,” Aperribay concluded.
With the new season closing in, Sadiq is keen to sort out his status, especially with Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers restarting in September.
He knows consistent playing time will be essential if he hopes to get back into the Super Eagles squad.
