Jadon Sancho started for the Red Devils in their 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Liverpool in their final match on their US tour.
The winger had engaged in clear-the-air talks with Erik ten Hag this summer following a highly publicized fallout, but now looks to re-establish himself as a key player for Manchester United.
Sancho had not played a competitive match for United since accusing Ten Hag of lying about his absence from the squad that faced Arsenal last September.
He spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Borussia Dortmund but has now rejoined United.
With Rasmus Højlund injured, Ten Hag has hinted that Sancho could play as a false nine to start the season.
Joshua Zirkzee, who recently signed for £36.5 million, may not be ready to come straight into the lineup.
Therefore, Sancho provides an alternative option to fill the striker role.
Ten Hag stated, “That is what we can do if we don’t have the availability of Rasmus. We know he can play in wide areas, but also as a false striker, he’s an option.”
Reflecting on his return, Sancho told MUTV, “It’s been nice, enjoying the weather, back with the lads, it’s been good. I love the facilities in America.”
Manchester United will face Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley next Saturday.
