A senior leader of the Islamic State group was likely killed in a US helicopter raid in northern Syria, according to a statement from the US Central Command.
The leader, who was responsible for planning terror attacks in the Middle East and Europe, was not named.
Two other armed individuals were also killed in the raid, which resulted in no harm to civilians or US troops.
However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the raid resulted in the arrest of a senior IS leader and killed three people.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces said the operation targeted a military site belonging to a Turkish-backed armed opposition group.
The Islamic State group was defeated in Syria in 2019, but sleeper cells maintain a presence and periodically stage attacks on military and civilian targets.
