Six VAR Referees Fired Over Alleged Racist Abuse of Vinicius Jr.

Six VAR referees have been fired by the Royal Spanish Football Federation and The Technical Committee of Referees following allegations of racist abuse towards Vinicius Jr. during Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Valencia.

The Brazilian winger was reportedly racially abused by Valencia supporters before being shown a red card for slapping Hugo Duro.

Vinicius posted a statement on social media condemning the actions of the supporters and the lack of action from La Liga.

Real Madrid also released a statement condemning the events and filed a report with the Attorney General’s Office.

Los Blancos’ boss Carlo Ancelotti also criticized La Liga and called for action to be taken against racism in football.

The decision to fire the referees was reportedly due to incomplete images given to the on-field referee, which led to Vinicius’ red card.
