Manchester United wantaway star, Cristiano Ronaldo may be able to finally leave Old Trafford this January as his childhood club, Sporting Lisbon are preparing a bid for the 37-year-old.

However, the Portuguese side are expecting United must pay part of the player’s wages.

Sporting can still progress to the next stage of the Champions League this season if they win their last group stage game this week.

They are tied on seven points with Frankfurt and are behind Tottenham on eight going into the last group stage on Tuesday where they face the German side.

Ronaldo does not just want to leave Manchester United but wants to join a team active in Europe’s elite club competition.

Having failed to secure a move in the last transfer window, Ronaldo now hopes to make the move out of Old Trafford in January, according to the Mirror.

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim revealed earlier last week that the club are ‘dreaming’ about re-signing Ronaldo international superstar, who left the club in 2003.

Amorim has admitted Sporting ‘don’t have the money to pay his wages’ and The Mirror are now reporting that the Lisbon club have offered United a ‘compromise’.

That compromise would see ‘United handing Ronaldo a pay-off on a chunk of his £500,000-a-week wages’ with Champions League side Sporting paying the rest.
