Spotify for iOS Gets Lock Screen Widget for Faster Access

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

Spotify has finally introduced a lock screen widget for iOS users, allowing for faster access to the app on iPhones.

While Apple introduced support for lock screen widgets in iOS 14, Spotify has only just caught up, seven months later.

The widget serves as a shortcut to open the Spotify app directly from the lock screen, although users will still need to unlock their device with Face ID or a passcode to actually allow the app to open.

The widget defaults to the home tab and cannot be customized.

Unlike the home screen widget, which shows album art and artist info for recently played tracks, the lock screen widget comes in a single size.

However, Spotify already places a temporary widget on the lock screen when music is playing, displaying track info, album art, and playback controls.

Users can add the Spotify widget to their lock screen by following a brief tutorial.

How to add Spotify widget to your iPhone’s lock screen

  1. Long press on your lock screen.
  2. Tap the Customize button, and select Lock Screen.
  3. Tap the Add Widgets button, and scroll down till you see Spotify,
  4. Drag the widget to the lock screen preview at the top of the screen.
  5. Tap the X button to close the panel, and then tap on Done.

To add the widget from the Settings > Wallpaper and select the Spotify option. The widget will then appear on your lock screen, allowing you to easily control your music without unlocking your phone.

This feature is available to all users, regardless of their account type, as long as they have iOS 16 or above.

If you don’t see the option to add the widget, make sure you have updated to the latest version of Spotify on the App Store (8.8.26).

Interestingly, while Spotify now has a lock screen widget, its rival Apple Music does not.

However, Apple Music does display a full-screen player on the lock screen when streaming music, similar to Spotify’s implementation.
