This week, reports have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur may be looking to sack Antonio Conte as manager.
Conte took the helm of the team in November 2021, leading them to a fourth-place finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.
But despite occupying fourth in the current Premier League standings, tensions between Conte and club executives escalated after an outburst after his side’s draw with Southampton on Saturday.
It has been reported that Conte had a video chat with chairman Daniel Levy to explain that his criticism was directed at the players rather than the club overall.
Nonetheless, The Express has now declared that Levy is assessing the situation, and there is major doubt amongst Conte’s squad over his continued leadership – he himself returning to Italy for some rest during the international break as speculation mounts of his departure from north London.
Unsurprisingly, Mauricio Pochettino is amongst those being linked to take over should Conte leave, though Ryan Mason could take up a caretaker role similar to when Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier this year.
With Spurs still well placed for Champions League qualification despite recent events, chairman Levy will be hoping that any potential changes can be seamless in order for them to secure their top four placing.
