The passport of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been confiscated by the Department of State Services (DSS).
It has been reported that the DSS may also search Emefiele’s home and office during the week.
Emefiele is currently detained and being interrogated, and it is uncertain whether he will be arraigned this week.
The DSS has stated that it is standard procedure to seize travel documents during ongoing investigations, and that Emefiele’s office and residence will be searched for documents that can aid the investigation into his management of the CBN.
Other top directors of the CBN may also be arrested or questioned over their roles in the administration of the apex bank.
The DSS may revisit the criminal charges it previously filed against Emefiele, which included allegations of terrorism financing and fraud related to the mismanagement of the CBN subsidiary, Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending, and the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme.
